Nicole Riso - Co Founder

My creative path began with an unconventional childhood—traveling cross-country in a Smurf-blue school bus—which likely explains how I became the artsy, bookish kid I grew into. After settling in Western Washington in the 1990s, I immersed myself in photography and design, eventually earning a degree in Visual Communications in 2006.

Since then, I’ve worked across portrait and event photography, graphic design, and custom framing, developing a deep appreciation for art, design, craftsmanship, and restoration. Today, I bring that blend of experience to my work as an instructor in the Art and Design Department at Highline College while continuing to follow my creative compass as the co-founder of Tacoma Design Company.

Tammi Hilton - Co Founder

I graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle in 1998 with an Associate of Art in Interior Design and began my career working for several design firms before opening my own successful design business in 2005. Along the way, I discovered a passion for teaching and began instructing design courses at Highline College, eventually joining the college full‑time—where I’ve now been for more than seventeen years.

Throughout my career, I’ve continued to expand my education, earning a Bachelor’s in Workforce Training and a Master’s in Art Education. With a strong foundation in design, experience running my own business, and years of managing multiple design departments at Highline College, I bring a well‑rounded blend of creativity, leadership, and practical expertise. I’m excited to use that experience to help bring your vision to life.
